Situated 110 KMs from Aurangabad, it's a two-hour drive. Take the route of Jalgaon Road.If you have only a flying visit to offer, you can visit Ajanta Caves and Ellora caves in one day. However, it is recommended that you spare a day each for these remarkable monuments.
The Aurangabad Caves situated 9 kilometers from Aurangabad in Maharashtra just outside the city near the famous monument Bibi-Ka-Maqbara.
Bibi-ka-Maqbara is situated within Aurangabad city and is on the drive of just a few minutes. With an hour to spare, you can pay a peaceful visit to this monument on your way back from Ellora.
About 20 kms from Aurangabad. Take the route for Nashik highway. You can reach Devgiri/Daultabad early in the morning and make the trip in the cooler temperature to the top in about three hours and carry on to Ellora thereafter with enough time at hand. You need to walk the whole distance once you enter the first gate. The climb could get mildly demanding as you near the top, but do make it to the top. The topmost bastion of the fort offers a nice view and the great feeling of having conquered this invincible fort.
The best season to visit Ellora Caves is after the Monsoon has arrived, as the surroundings will be lush green and the couple of small waterfalls around will be at their best. However, the visit can be enjoyed right up to February from June.
Paithan, situated approximately 50 kilometers south of Aurangabad, is on one hours drive. It is recommended for the tourists who plan to stay at Aurangabad for a reasonable amount of time.
