History

Situated on the bank of River Pravara, Devgad is a beautiful village risen to fame for it’s temple of God Datta. This serene place rose to popularity over the last few decades after the saintly figure of Kisangiri Maharaj, the native of the village and the messenger of god Datta, spread the message of hygiene and humanity from here.

On the way to Shani Shingnapur, Devgad has today become an important place in the state. The grandly built temple of God Datta here attracts thousands of devotees every year. As one arrives at the temple, a gardened pathway leads to the imposing structure of the temple through several ostentatiously erect gates. The trust that looks after the temple has made it a point to keep the surroundings immaculately clean. Every corner of this large site radiates positive energy.

Near the temple is the shrine of the great Kisangiri Maharaj who is believed to have been graced by God Datta with an appearance. Kisangiri Maharaj, a natural devotee of god Datta worshiped him sitting at the bank of Pravara as a child out of self motivation. He was known to possess extraordinary powers. Like all great saints, there are stories about the miracles performed by Kisangiri Maharaj. Since the young age, Kisangiri spread the message of god and taught his followers the moral and hygienic way of life.

The temple at Devgad is a beautiful site graced by a wide bank of River Pravara, which has been nicely built up and turned into a spot for boating. The ample amount of well planted trees here adds to the serenity of the place. A large, well built guest house has been started here by the trust with the capacity to host 150 people. Contributing to the community, the trust throws mass meals frequently. The trust has also started a school in the village. Through intelligent planning and hard work, the trust has converted this religious place also into a recreational site.
