The city is all set to go without water for 36 hours from 11am on Friday as the MSEDCL has planned the maintenance of 33 KV sub-station. The sub-stations supply power to the pumping stations in Paithan, which in turn pumps water to the city. After maintenance work is completed it would take at least three to four days to restore normal water supply, according to the water works department.

The civic body's water works engineer Iqbal Singh Chahal said that the Paithan sub-division of Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has sought permission to start essential maintenance work. They would not be able to supply power for several hours from the 33 KV sub-station. Chahal said that the civic body has also allowed them to go ahead with the maintenance work.

Chahal said the civic body would take this opportunity to undertake maintenance work like cleaning Clariflocculator (water treatment and recycling) plant at Pharola of silt and trash.

For this work to coincide with the power outage, the civic body has to stop water supply from October 6, 11am onwards for 36 hours. Due to this the water supply schedule of the city has to be extended by one or two days.Chahal added that maintenance of two water lines— 100 mm and 56 mm— that fetch water to the city from Jayakwadi projects, will take place during this period as well. The water works engineer said the civic body regrets the inconvenience caused to residents. Chahal also admitted that there was no standby or alternate arrangement for supplying drinking water.

Meanwhile, sources at the civic body pointed out that the city currently requires 200 mld (million litres per day) while the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) lifts between 150 and 155 mld from Jayakwadi dam. Out of the total water that AMC lifts, only 100 to 120 mld water reaches the city. The rest of the water is lost in the process or shared by villagers along the 50 km stretch of the pipeline. In case of events like power failure or a technical difficulties, the entire water supply system automatically gets upset, forcing the residents to go without water for days.

Fire brigade staffers were on toes as the city and its outskirts received another spell of incessant rainfall for two hours on Wednesday evening. Already overcast conditions became denser by around 4pm and resulted in heavy downpour in many areas for around two hours, inundating the low-lying areas and other vulnerable localities of Aurangabad. Fire brigade authorities said that till 8pm they received around 26 calls related to rainwater entering into houses and falling of of trees . Rescue teams also saved a girl from drowning after she fell in nullah near Mukundwadi area.

Noor Colony, Jai Bhavani Nagar, Mukundwadi and Dalalwadi were among the areas where gushing rainwater entered into houses. The affected families used buckets and water-pumps to drain out water with help of other residents and fire brigade officials. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) observatory at Chikalthana, city received around 53 mm rainfall till 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Pertinently, in a similar quick thrashing, parts of Aurangabad recording around 65mm rainfall due to heavy showers on September 15 and September 13. The met department has predicted similar rains during next 72-hours. As per met department forecast, Aurangabad is expected to witness generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain for the next few days. The city registered a maximum of 29.4 degrees celsius and minimum of 21.4 degrees celsius temperature on Wednesday. Jayakwadi swells as flow increases

Jayakwadi major irrigation project witnessed marked increase in inflows due to release of water from upstream areas as well rainfall in catchment areas. The dam, which was filled to nearly 89% of live storage by 6pm on Wednesday, was receiving inflows at the speed of 41,376 Cusec till late evening. According to irrigation department authorities, the dam has witnessed increase in inflows from Nandur-Madhameshwar Weir (10,000 Cusec) and Nagamthan River Gauging Station (18,930 Cusec) by 7pm. The authorities have already cautioned that the swelled dam could witness release of water at any moment due to increased live storage. Source-TOI

The local civic body and the state power utility failed to conduct a crucial joint meeting on Wednesday to address issues such as clash in timings of the ongoing Power cuts with water-supply, causing grave inconvenience to the citizens.

People who commonly use electric motors for lifting water from taps are suffering the most. Prior to the Wednesday meeting, the authorities had slotted a meeting on Tuesday which did not fall in place, raising many questions to the authorities.

Stating that they were not receiving any response from Aurangabad Municipal Corporation over conducting a joint meeting, the higher-ups from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) shot off a letter to the civic authorities.

MSEDCL chief engineer for Aurangabad circle Suresh Ganeshkar said, "The load shedding timetable cannot be tweaked as it was charted out by considering peak consumption hours." The AMC officials did not respond us regarding the meeting. We have requested the civic body to change its water supply schedule in the light of power cuts. The load-shedding timetable is more or less a state level arrangement. It has been worked out to overcome the current power crisis by effecting power cuts during timings which is considered as the peak consumption period," he said.

As per the Distribution and Commerical Losses (DCL), for the second consecutive day, the consumers drawing power from the feeders coming into the C and D categories witnessed power-cuts along with those depending upon the feeders categorised in the bracket from E to G. When contacted, the Aurangabad municipal commissioner D M Mugalikar said that none of the MSEDCL authorities approached them regarding the joint meeting. "I am available for official work even if i am in Mumbai for last couple of days. MSEDCL officials have apparently approached the lower level officials. I would seek details from the water supply department officials," he said.

"AMC has no qualms about altering water-supply schedule in the larger interest of public. The necessary solution would be worked out shortly. If MSEDCL has a rigid stand about its power-cut schedule, we would try and changes certain things at our end," Mugalikar said. The state power utility has effected the load-shedding on 45 feeders out of the total 83 feeders that supplies power to over 2.82 lakh consumers in the city. It has been carrying out similar power cuts on other 22 feeders in the city since Tuesday.

Besides difficulties in the water storage, the city had its visible effect on traffic signals among other public arrangements. A few major streets witnessed chaotic traffic signs as traffic lights were turned off due to power cuts.

MSEDCL authorities said that no immediate relief from power-cuts was in sight. The city is likely to witness power cuts on 67 feeders for the next few days. "We would appeal the defaulter citizens to pay their bill regulars and refrain from the power theft to enjoy interrupted power supply," an MSEDCL official said. Aurangabad zone comprises of urban and rural areas from Aurangabad and Jalna districts that witness DCL in the range of 30% to 40% every month.

Inquiry against PI Rajkumar Dongre ordered for not taking the case seriously
Shruti's sister Shraddha told the media that ASI Khatavkar used abusive language with her and her deceased sister. She alleged that the police had acted softly with Swapnil after the first complaint was lodged Court permission. "If an accused has to be rearrested in any case, prior permission has to be sought from a court of law. Accordingly, court permission has been obtained. Swapnil, who had acquired bail on August 19, had been at large since then. Police teams were sent to Pune, Mumbai, Gangapur, Jalna and other places but finally he was caught in Newasa," said the investigating officer. Probe handed over to crime branch
Shruti consumed sleeping pills on August 17 and a case of eve-teasing was registered against Swapnil on the following day. Shruti died on August 20 and Swapnil later charged with abetting suicide. "After the case was handed over to the crime branch by the Cidco police inspector, crime branch inspector Avinash Aaghav is looking into it," said the CP. Inquiry against PI Rajkumar Dongre ordered for not taking the case seriously.
Cidco ASI Harish Khatavkar has been suspended for allegedly using rude language with Shruti Kulkarni, who committed suicide. Similarly, an inquiry against Cidco PI Rajkumar Dongre has been ordered for not taking the matter seriously, commissioner of police (CP) Amitesh Kumar told newspersons today.
More importantly, ASI Raju Vaishnava and head constable N D Hiwale were already suspended in this matter. Shruti Kulkarni, a resident of Cidco N-7, who took the extreme step on August 17 following the alleged torture by Swapnil Miniyar, breathed her last on August 20 while undergoing treatment.

Swapnil used to torture Shruti by calling her on phone and sending lewd messages.
A complaint was lodged against him on July 24, but the police officers took action only after 10 days by arresting him. He was released on bail on the following day. Had the police acted in time, the life of Shruti could have been saved, claimed her relatives. After his release, Swapnil again started torturing Shruti and threatening her on phone. Fed up with the constant torture by him, Shruti reportedly gulped down sleeping pills to kill herself on August 17 and died two days later while being treated. When the media highlighted the issue, senior officers reportedly took the police officers concerned to task. The CP said following the complaint received against ASI Khatavkar, deputy commissioner of police Vasant Pardeshi was directed to submit a report after registering the statement of Shruti's sister and relatives.

The crime branch police tonight arrested Swpanil Miniyar, who had abetted the suicide of Cidco, N-7 girl Shruti Kulkarni, near Newasa village in Ahmednagar district. He had been hiding there for the last three days. Deputy commissioner of police Sandeep Atole said on August 17 Shruti ended life by consuming sleeping pills as she was being harassed by Miniyar. The latter was sending lewd text messages to her and threatened her. On August 18, Swapnil was arrested for molesting her but got bail. He then went underground. Meanwhile, Shruti died on August 20 after which a case of abetting suicide was registered.
The commissioner of police had formed eight squads to nab the culprits and the probe was given to the crime branch. The police traced calls made by the accused to his friends and relatives. On Saturday morning, he called up his friend after which the police traced his mobile location. At 8 pm, he was caught at Newasa.
